How do you name imines?
February 20th, 2023
You name imines as alkane-substituted imines.
Imines are compounds with a ##”C=N”## double bond.
Their general formula is ##”R”_2″C=NR”##.
Here are some examples with their names:
##”CH”_3″CH”_2″CH”_2″CH”_2″CH”_2″CH=NH”##
##”hexan-1-imine”##
##(“CH”_3″CH”_2)_2″CHCH=NCH”_2″CH”_3##
##N,2”-diethylbutan-1-imine”##
##(“CH”_3)_2″C=NH”##
##”propan-2-imine”##
If another group in the molecule has a higher priority, the group is named as an imino substituent. For example,
##”H”_2″NCH”_2″CH”_2″CH”_2″CH=NH”##
##”4-iminobutan-1-amine”##
