observed numerical values are often a quantitative proxy for a question that we’re wanting to answer. That is, we’re probably not wanting to answer the question “are ACT scores for students in Oklahoma larger than those of students in Texas?” but more likely “are students from Oklahoma more prepared for college than students from Texas?” where we might use an ACT score to draw conclusions about such a question. In your own area of interest, write out the statement of a question/problem that you believe is researchable. Provide some ideas for quantitative responses that, when analyzed, might help you draw conclusions about that question/problem. What factors might affect the quantitative response? What are the associated hypotheses?
