Throughout this project, you will examine the case from three different perspectives and take on three roles. These roles will be of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers union (IBEW) Local 3, the CAC Company and the Arbitrator. The premise of this project is that both parties have agreed to arbitrate the labor contract after face to face negotiations have stalled.

a) The demographics of the employees working for CAC Company, which will include pay rates, length of service, and titles.
b) The current contract which will expire on the last day of this month
c) The demands of labor and the issues that will be part of the arbitration
d) The items and issues that the company is willing to take to arbitration and those that they will not consider

You will play the role of the CAC company representative.

 

In this role, you will be responsible for detailing the current total cost of labor, under the existing contract, including, benefits, paid time off, and wages. In addition, you will detail what the total cost of a new contract will be if labor were to get all of their demands, and then you will detail what the labor cost will be if the company is successful in arbitration.

 

From the position of the CAC company representative, detail the following information in a 3-5 page, APA formatted paper. Include support for your positions based on the facts provided. Be sure to proofread for grammar and spelling errors. In the paper include the following:

 

  • An analytical overview of the following information under the existing contract including:

    • demographic information

    • current total cost of labor including benefits, paid time off and wages

  • A summary of the current contract terms

  • Identify areas of potential “trouble” in future negotiations

  • A summary of the demands of labor and of management

  • Detailed overview of the total cost of a new contract if all labor demands were satisfied via arbitration.

  • Detailed overview of the labor cost if the company is successful in arbitration.
