What does jurisdiction mean ?
February 20th, 2023
The official power to make legal decisions and judgments.
It means someone has the power to do something. Usually it is used as a legal term or a term when someone is referring to their legal abilities. e.g. If a judge in Canada wanted to arrest you for drunk driving, but you were never drunk driving in Canada and the United States doesn’t want to arrest you- then interfering with the US legal system is outside of the jurisdiction of the Canadian judge because it is outside of his power to put you in jail.
