Advanced Ergonomics
In this unit lesson, we discuss the concept of controlling ergonomic risk exposure with proper hand tool design. Hand tools are basically an extension of the hand, and if you look at most people’s hands, you will find a mobile phone. What do you think is the most important change one can make to minimize the ergonomic risks of cell phone usage?

MATTHEW:
Cell phones are constantly in everyones hand. I personally have noticed when I text frequently or hold my phone in my hand a lot I can develop discomfort in my wrist and thumb. There are several things that can be done to minimize the ergonomic risk associated with cell phone use. Engineering controls would be using hands-free blue tooth devices to eliminate the need to hold your phone to your ear in an awkward posture. Different phone cases also provide an ergonomic grip to ease the discomfort while holding your phone. Administrative controls would be to limit the amount of time you are using the phone. Also many users are also using the talk to text functions instead of typing out all of their messages. As technology use increases there will only be an increase in ergonomic issues related to phone use. Another issue to consider with technology is the eye strain. Blue light glasses or limiting use can aid with this
