Read Principles of marketing Chapter 10, Real Marketing 10.1: Good Value at Spirit Airlines: Getting Less but Paying Much Less for It.  Each group should then answer the following questions and share their answers with the class.

• Explain Spirit’s pricing strategy in your own words. Does the company employ good-value pricing or value-added pricing? Explain.
• How is Spirit distinguishing itself from other airlines? How does it deliver value to consumers?
• Is Spirit’s pricing strategy sustainable? In what economic situations? Explain.
• What changes, if any, would you recommend that Spirit make?

While consumers can avoid some fees, such as those for food, preferred seating, and wi-fi, the majority can’t avoid baggage fees. What type of pricing strategies are airlines using? What are airlines trying to accomplish through their commercials?  Convince people that flying is great, they might as well do it with your competitor. But what airlines have to really do is to  differentiate their product from other airline offerings. Some airlines need brand awareness, need you to know they exist, but those airlines are not likely well funded enough to buy much television time.  Watch the  following Airline Commercials  and share with your classmates your thoughts about them.

• Which one is your favorite? Why?
• Which one is your least favorite?
• Which one you believe is more effective?
• Do these commercials have something in common?
• Research and upload any other commercial that you like and believe is/was (you can used older commercials) effectively targeting and reaching a particular audience.
