After visiting the website and viewing the video, answer the following questions:
- Were you surprised at the current size of the human population or at its changes since your year of birth?
- How many people do you believe the Earth can support without dire environmental damage?
- Should developed countries help slow the population growth of developing countries? If so, what sorts of methods should be employed to do this?

1) Were you surprised at the current size of the human population or at its changes since your year of birth?
Honestly I was kinda shocked at how the population has changed since I was born. I was born in 1999 and according to Ined.com there were 308,978,000 people on earth the year I was born. Just twenty years later and the population has multiplied by 1.19. There are 366,601,000 people living in Northern America today. This means that in that twenty year time span there were approximately 57 million people born.
- How many people do you believe the Earth can support without dire environmental damage?
I believe that earth can support everyone’s basic needs but the problem is when people start to get avaricious and start thinking of only themselves and taking more than they need not the next person.
- Should developed countries help slow the population growth of developing countries? If so, what sorts of methods should be employed to do this?
I don’t think developed countries should slow the population growth of developing countries because we all have different beliefs and morals. For example, if we were to adopt China’s One Child Policy many Americans would not be very pleased with this because they would have to lose their child. According to an article written by Kristen Bialik on Pew Research the average household has “anywhere from 2 to 3 children in it”. After doing more research on Statista.com I found out that there are about “7.13 million families with more than one child”. This policy would affect this nation tremendously.

Were you surprised at the current size of the human population or at its changes since your year of birth?
Honestly, I’m not surprised at all. When I was born, there were 6,143,490,000 people on this Earth, and now there’s 7,713,470,000, multiplying by 1.26%. It’s definitely not a shocker. In this past year, most of the people I know have been popping out babies left and right, and it’s gonna keep happening. The world is so crowded, at least it seems like it to me. As stated in the video, the birth rates are outweighing the deaths.
How many people do you believe the Earth can support without dire environmental damage?
It depends on how humans spend their time on Earth. If we stuck to our natural resources, cleaned up after ourselves, and stopped chopping down all the trees then we’ll be okay. However, we are not like that. The human mind is full of greed, whether we realize it or not. We search for something greater, something the Earth can’t provide, so we destroy it for our own satisfaction. We have factories pumping toxins into the air and water, trash getting thrown everywhere; killing the aquatic animals. If we begin to take care of the Earth, the Earth will take care of us.
Should developed countries help slow the population growth of developing countries? If so, what sorts of methods should be employed to do this?
I mean, it could become a possibility, but there would be disadvantages. Each country abides by certain morals, we all differentiate in some ways, and what they may believe could be different than what another country does. Some people may not agree with the contraceptive, as they believe reproducing is their God-given right. While it could propose a beneficial outcome for the population, people will stick with what they want to do.
