Once we return from this New Year break, I will begin a job as the regional safety manager for a commercial electrical company. With this new position I will manage four to six other safety professionals in two states, and on various projects. Though this class has been geared towards fleet safety, I am looking at my new position as a manager of a “fleet” of safety personnel. One group of individuals seeking a unified goal. So the lessons that I have learned in this class, benchmarking for example, will be utilized to set goals and track the progress of our company’s safety management system. The writing assignments enabled me to be creative and expand upon critical thinking in order to formulate ideas that is preparing me for similar activities in my new role. Also, our company does employ a fleet of vehicles, and though the oversight of this area may not fall under my duties, I can use what I have learned in this class to reinforce fleet safety amongst the safety department who are issued a company vehicle.
