By 2050, the number of people age 65 and older with Alzheimer’s will go from 5.2 million to a projected 13.8 million, given the baby boomer population reaching age 65 has begun recently; the numbers are escalating quickly (Help End Alzhiemers).  Alzheimer’s is the sixth leading cause of death in the United States. The cost of this disease is nearly bankrupting Medicare with expectations to cover $160 billion in healthcare for Alzheimer’s patients. Better care, therapy, and prevention research will require huge investments which will be a concern for many policy makers and how the government will apply funding.
