Summary of chapter 5 and chapter 13 or 14
Each student is responsible for writing 2 separate summaries of chapters from the Gray, Hanson and Kousser (2018) course textbook. ( Politics in the American States: A Comparative Analysis (11th Edition)
Each summary should be 2-pages (12-point Times New Roman font, double-spaced, 1” margins).
While students will have a significant amount of freedom to choose what to include in their summary for a chapter, you are expected to include the following:
Identify and discuss any federalism-related issues or debates (i.e., competition between the states, cooperation between federal and state governments, etc.)
Clear definitions of at least 5 key terms AND why they are significant for the chapter
Discuss any historical trends or changes for the topic of the chapter (especially as it relates to federalism, technology, electoral politics, etc.)
Key findings from all the tables and figures presented in the chapter
What you believe is the most important fact or information you learned from the chapter
A very important part of your summaries is to properly reference and cite the actual chapters you are summarizing. And cite your chapter pages. You are welcome to use MLA, APA, or Chicago Style citation.
