What are the cations and anions for the formula CuBr2?
February 20th, 2023
Cation = ##Cu^(2+)##
Anion = ##Br^-##
Bromine is a halogen (group 7A, or Group 17 using IUPAC). Halide ions will have a -1 charge.
You can use the charge of the bromide ion to deduce the charge of the copper cation. Since must be electrically neutral, the copper must have a charge of +2 since there are two -1 bromide ions.
