What are the characteristics of restriction enzymes?
February 20th, 2023
There are many
1. they are specific
2.they are Endonuclease
3.They cannot recognise Bacterial DNA
4.They can recognize Phage DNA(virus)
5.There are many Types
are normally found in where they act as defense Mechanism against invading (phages)
These Enzymes recognise specific Sequence in DNA and cut it or away from (so there are 2 types of DNA nucleases)
These enzyme cut DNA both strands .
They cut within The DNA not at the ends(endonculease)
They can cut virus DNA that attack Bacteria but cannot Bacterial DNA as it is methylated .
Type 1 Restriction enzyme : uses ATP
Type 2 Restriction enzyme : does not use ATP
