What does “being made redundant” mean? Not the repetitive meaning, the employment-related meaning?
February 20th, 2023
Being redundant means your job function is being done by someone else.
To be made redundant means that your job function is being done by someone else – so you are not doing anything of value that isn’t already being done by someone else. So there is a repetitive meaning to it (as in the job duty is being done by more than you) and there is also a negative meaning to it as well – the person who is considered redundant is also the one who will probably be fired (whereas the other person who is also doing the job function is not considered redundant).
